ACTIVITY REPORT 2021
What does the Agathos Foundation do?
1.Supports the life in the community of young people with institutionalized backgrounds through:
- Offering a living space in an apartment protected by the foundation (we have 4 apartments);
- finding a job;
- counselling in the development of independent living skills;
- establishing a routine that they can follow.
2.Awareness: taking on the role of informing about the effects of institutionalization and the need for support from the community and understanding in the process of this integration;
3.Training young people who are in centers of placements about the meaning of life after leaving the institution. Informing future beneficiaries through: non-formal education courses, seminars and workshops on topics requested by young people: spiritual, financial, sexual and independent living education and volunteers in the field.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN 2021
Project: Social and professional integration of young people with an institutionalised past
- In this project young people are helped to establish social relationships with neighbours, church members, foundation volunteers, co-workers, bosses, to find a job according to their skills and to keep it;
- 8 young people live in the 4 flats given for use by the foundation;
- 4 young people live in locations whose rent they pay for themself and receive counselling services for their needs (social and professional integration);
- 6 former Agathos beneficiaries who went through crisis situations returned for support;
- We have prepared for job interviews, work samples and regular activities aimed at establishing a routine that beneficiaries can stick to.
- Waking up in the morning, sandwiches at work, cleaning the apartment, paying monthly utilities, going to work, preparing food, dealing with neighbors, etc.

- Adrian prison visit- 6 visits ( January- May 2021). In May 2021 Adi was released from prison. We offered him a place to stay, money for food and personal needs and started looking for a job. Because of his criminal record it was very hard to get a job. After a long search he found a job at a fast food restaurant in the Mall. Adrian became a Christian in prison and is trying to live a new life. He is working and his behaviour has completely changed. He is lonely and has some episodes of sadness and inner struggles.
Project: Preventing the separation of children from family
We supported 6 poor and single parent families with 3-4 children with :
- food, school supplies, medicines, we made arrangements for them to be re-enrolled in school;
- we refurbished 2 homes that needed improvements (Sorina's and Bebe F.'s apartment) and bought 3 children's wardrobes, 2 sofa beds, set up a homework desk, 2 desk chairs and 1 fridge with freezer.
➢ Visits of families in the programme: During the visits we bought food, ingredients according to the lists made by the mothers, medicines, advice in solving certain problems.

- setting up the after school location in Livia's apartment;
- we pick up children from school;
- prepare them a lunch;

➢ Back to school - In September we equipped 25 children to go to school. We bought backpacks, school supplies, clothes and shoes for them.
➢ We supported 2 underage single mothers, Denisa and Carla ( 14 years old and 17 years old) in every way possible:
- accommodation, meals, material needs for the newborn, medical and psychological needs for the young mother, until the moment when we managed to find a Shelter Center for single mothers.
Now, the mother and babies are in a safe place.
In March we discovered that Floare has cancer. Due to the fact that she did not have medical insurance she was not able to get treatment. In April we started the medical procedures: paid for health insurance, accompanied by medical investigations, CT scans, blood tests, hospital admission for cancer surgery. Post-operative care: medication, food, return to doctor. At the end of year 2021, Floare was in good health.
Medical expenses with Andreea - she has 8 emergency operations.
We paid for a CT , several investigations at specialist doctors and medical prescription.
Project: Training and development of independent living skills
- "Little Chefs" project - food supplement at the Placement Center in Găvojdia (from September 2021);
- Activities with Gabriela: writing/reading, counselling, health care etc. Gabriela wants to do a baby sitting course. Due to the pandemic the course is suspended. Gabriela works at a playground in Iulius Mall;
- Activities with Ana Maria: leaving the center for 4 days, visiting Timisoara, going to the bookshop, buying books, reading books together, school and career guidance;
- I went with Cosmina and Gabriela to the theatre. We met together for discussions on personal development topics;
- We made small trip with the young people in the programme together with thevolunteers to Sasca Montană;
- Gabriela and Simon are supported to visit and restore their relationship with their mother and siblings;
- Working meetings with state institutions related to child rights and protection;
- Visits to public residential centres (Lugoj, Săcălaz, Găvojdia).

➢ Project: Continuation of studies: support in the continuation and completion of higher education (university fees, material support during studies);
- Claudia will graduate the nursing school;
- Alexandra has graduated from the English faculty;
- Alin is studying medical engineering.
➢ Project : Leisure and socialising
- Sasca Montana Camp - 6 days meetings in the mountains
- Friends' Christmas- During 16-22 December 2021, 98 children from 5 placement centres were brought by the foundation's cars to Iulius Mall in Timisoara and bought 2-3 personal items they wanted. After the shopping time they came to our home and we had a festive meal and discussed - Alex- therapy, speech therapy - for more 12 months
- Ana Maria -After school - during the school year
- To build a bathroom for the house

1. Continue to support existing beneficiaries;
2. Support 5 new beneficiaries;
3. Launching a center -type training service for the independent living of young people in placement centres in Găvojdia and Lugoj;
4. Training volunteers for social support of beneficiaries;
5. Summer camp in Sasca Montan
